What To Wear When Working From Home
If you are working from home or self-isolating due to the coronavirus crisis, it is very tempting not to make an effort in terms of your sartorial choices. With the inevitable rise of the video conference call, it is really important to dress appropriately whilst you are out of the office.
Just because you’re working from home, doesn’t mean you should let yourself go. The number one rule when it comes to video conference calling is not to dress for the gym or bed – unfortunately pyjamas aren’t an option. Don’t allow your boss or colleagues to see you in your true dishevelled state. No one expects you to look immaculate, but you should be suitably dressed in order to maintain your professional, credible persona (from the waist up, at least!)
Not only is dressing up for work professional, but it also makes you feel a bit brighter. Working from home can be an isolating, boring, stressful and depressing experience. There may be a correlation between getting dressed and making an effort for the day and your general mental state.
What you wear signals something about what you are prepared to do. For example, if you wear something smart, in some ways that can heighten your own opinion of yourself. Your clothes match your overall demeanour, so if you spend your day working from home in your pyjamas, you’re not properly preparing yourself to do anything professional and that can affect your motivation and confidence.
We aren’t recommending that you dress to the nines in a full suit, but we do suggest you opt for an outfit that is both smart and comfortable. Here are the best outfits to wear when working from home...
